Members,

International Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28 provided us all with an important reminder of why we do what we do here at the CFMEU. I was honoured to be invited to join Alex White of UnionsACT in speaking at the National Workers Memorial, but none of us were prepared for the words of Michelle Campbell, whose son Jason was killed while working.

Thanks to our members...

Written by Dean Hall on 12 April 2017

Thankyou. This month has been an amazing show of solidarity. We’ve raised thousands of dollars for the Canberra Kids Hospital. We’ve made life easier for sick kids. We’ve stood together and we’ve demanded safer workplaces.

Real men do not abuse women

Written by Dean Hall on 26 October 2016

Real men do not abuse women is the CFMEU campaign launched in 2013. It aims to spread the message that violence against women is unacceptable and to encourage more men to speak out against it.

The campaign aims to get men to start to talk about violence against women and dismiss attitudes by co-workers, friends or families that allows women to be abused. Violence against women is not a female issue it is a whole of community issues.

Violence against women has huge impact on women, children, families and the community. Family violence has no barriers it affects all facets of our community including the rich and poor.

There has been a lot of discussion recently in the media regarding the need for urgent action to tackle the epidemic of violence against women in Australia.

I am a proud supporter of White Ribbon Australia. Now is the time for men to enter the discussion and say that violence against women is not acceptable.

Construction Charitable Works the CFMEU’s social service arms is available to assist people affected by family violence. If you or a member of your family require assistance please call 1800 211 470 for assistance.

Family violence is not acceptable and we all have a role to play in ending violence against women in Australia.

I take the oath that I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women.

I hope all the CFMEU ACT Branch Membership will join me.
